Straight Pool (14.1) — Quick Rules

Overview

• Any called ball can be shot in any order; each legally pocketed called ball = 1 point.
• Racks are commonly to 100, 125, 150, or more.

Rack & Break

• Rack 15 with the apex on the foot spot. Break must either pocket a called ball or drive two object balls plus the cue ball to cushions (house rules vary).
• After 14 balls are pocketed, re‑rack 14 and leave the 15th in place; player plays a break shot into the new rack.

Calls & Fouls

• Call ball and pocket. Caroms, kisses, and banks must be indicated if not obvious.
• Fouls: failing to hit a legal shot, scratch, cue ball off table, or double hit; standard one‑point deduction. Three consecutive fouls = additional 15‑point penalty.
